Monday, October 15, 2012 On October 2nd, the Stratton Mountain and South Londonderry fire departments visited the primary grades at Flood Brook School. The volunteer firefighters walked in the classrooms dressed in full gear, including masks, which in the words of one child “made them sound like Darth Vader in Star Wars!” One of their goals was to eliminate the fear that children sometimes have when seeing a fireman. They want to ensure that in a real-life situation, a child would not be afraid to go to them. Later, when the firemen were outside showing the fire truck and all its equipment, they rescued the soccer balls from the roof, then gave Principal Neal McIntyre a ride in the bucket of the ladder truck. He was taken over 100 ft. up in the air as kids screeched and cheered him on. A great big thank you goes to the Stratton Mountain and South Londonderry fire departments from the FBUS community.
